Why Corn and Soy-Free Eggs Are Better for You (and Your Metabolism)
Eggs today aren’t the same as the ones our great-grandmas enjoyed. While they still offer nutrients, they now come with baggage: higher levels of polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs), pesticide residues, and hormone-disrupting compounds.
Many people are even becoming intolerant to eggs…but maybe the issue isn’t the egg itself. Maybe it’s what the hen ate and how the hen is raised.
Let’s explore why corn and soy-free eggs matter, what makes them different, and how choosing the right eggs can make a big difference in your health.
- Lower PUFA Levels (specifically, lower Omega 6 PUFA)
- Lower Oxidation Levels
- Less Hormone Disrupting Compounds
- Easier to Digest
- Less Pesticide Exposure
1. Lower PUFA Content
PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids), particularly linoleic acid an Omega 6 PUFA, are highly unstable fats that promote inflammation and metabolic dysfunction when overconsumed.
You have likely heard of the health consequences of seed oils (vegetable oils). Well, many modern eggs contain the same types of fats that are high in seed oils (like Linoleic Acid).
High-PUFA diets can:
- Increased oxidative stress and inflammation
- Hider carb oxidation
- Slow metabolism
- Change the fats inside of you
(I dive into the health consequences of high PUFA diets in depth here, if you would like to learn more.)
In 1900, PUFAs made up only 1-2% of our daily caloric intake. Today? Over 15%, with some estimates closer to 20-25%.
This shift doesn’t just affect what’s on our plates… it changes our metabolism, hormones, and cellular function. And changes the types of fat inside of you!

Why does this matter with eggs?
Pasture-raised hens can’t live on grass alone (70–90% of their diet comes from supplemental feed).
Most modern livestock feed (including the feed for laying hens) is packed with high-PUFA ingredients like corn, soy, flax, and industrial byproducts. (It didn't used to be this way!)
And when it comes to chickens, PUFAs in = PUFAs out.

Meaning, chickens pass these fats into their eggs. So if their feed is high in linoleic acid (& other PUFAs), so are the eggs. (ref)
2 store-bought "pasture-raised" eggs from the Nation's leading pasture-raised brand and store-bought conventional eggs contain the same amount of PUFAs as 1 tablespoon of Canola oil.
So if you are avoiding seed oils, why are you still eating eggs from chickens fed the same types of fats?

However, there is a bit problem: many of the "corn and soy-free" feed out there simply swap corn and soy for other high-PUFA ingredients like flax, sunflower, safflower or industrial oilseed byproducts. Kind of defeating the purpose.
These feeds may check a marketing box, but they don't actually reduce the PUFA content of the egg.
At Angel Acres, we weren’t satisfied with any corn and soy-free feed options on the market.
So we decided to take a different approach.
Lower PUFA eggs start with better eggs.
So we don't buy off the shelf feed, we make our own! We formulated our own custom feed from the ground up, one that is not only corn and soy-free, but also low in total PUFA content. We work directly with regenerative row crop farmers to source clean, nutrient-rich ingredients that nourish our hens without introducing metabolic or hormonal disruptors.
The result?
Our eggs contain 73% less linoleic acid (an Omega 6 PUFA) than organic Vital Farms eggs.
When chickens eat better, you eat better. And your body feels the difference.
2. Lower Oxidation Levels
Truly lower PUFA levels = less oxidation
PUFAs are chemically unstable by nature due to their multiple double bonds.
When exposed to heat, light, or oxygen (like during cooking!), they oxidize and can break down into harmful compounds like MDA and lipid peroxides.
These compounds increase inflammation, oxidative stress, and damage cells.
Eggs from hens fed soy rich diets showed the highest levels of pre-cooking lipid oxidation (measured by TBARS) (ref, ref), meaning the damage starts even before the egg hits your pan.

Eggs higher in PUFAs (Omega 6 or Omega 3) will more readily oxidize. (ref)
And it doesn’t stop there.
Worse, PUFA oxidation also triggers cholesterol oxidation in the yolk, producing harmful cholesterol oxidation products (COPs) such as 7-ketocholesterol and β-epoxycholesterol (ref), which are linked to metabolic and cardiovascular issues.
One study found that people who ate high-PUFA eggs had LDL cholesterol that oxidized 28% faster (ref): a clear sign of increased oxidative stress.
And there’s more… eggs containing more PUFAs spoil faster, taste worse, and lose nutrients more quickly.
Our solution: A custom, low-PUFA diet that protects your egg from oxidation before, during, and after cooking.
3. Less Hormone Disrupting Compounds
Hormonal imbalances are everywhere. Infertility rates are climbing. Breast cancer has increased by 210% since 1970. Testosterone is in free fall.
Why?
We’re being exposed to hormone-disrupting compounds (endocrine disruptors) everywhere we turn. They’re in personal care products, cleaning supplies, clothing, and now… in our food. Even in eggs!
One major contributor? Phytoestrogens: plant compounds found in soy and flax that mimic estrogen in the body. While not identical to human estrogen, they’re similar enough to bind to estrogen receptors and disrupt hormonal balance.
This disruption can lead to estrogen dominance, a condition that interferes with thyroid function by reducing active thyroid hormone). Less thyroid hormone = slower metabolism = easier fat gain. Makes sense why estrogen is used in the livestock industry as a fattening agent!
>> I dive into the phytoestrogen problem in depth in a YouTube video if you would like to learn more! Or read more here in a blog post.
A research study out of Ohio State clearly documents that when chickens consume soy, phytoestrogens are passed directly into their eggs (ref). And when you eat those eggs, your body absorbs those estrogen-like compounds.
So you might be getting an unwanted hormone boost with every egg you eat.
But even if your eggs are labeled “soy-free,” they may still be loaded with phytoestrogens because many brands swap soy for flax, which contains even more phytoestrogens than flax.
Modern life already bombards us with excess estrogen from:
- Birth control
- Plastic packaging
- Tap water
- Pesticide exposure
- Makeup and lotions
Do we really need more hormone disruptors in the eggs we eat?
At Angel Acres, the answer is no.
We’ve taken a strong stance: No soy. No flax. No corn or industrial oils
Just clean, thoughtfully sourced ingredients.
The result? Eggs that contain negligible levels of the hormone disrupting phytoestrogens. Eggs just as nature intended.

4. Easier to Digest
What if your egg allergy isn’t from the egg… but from what the chicken eats?
Many of our customers couldn’t tolerate conventional eggs due to bloating, skin flare-ups, or digestive issues. That changed with Angel Acres eggs.
Why? It’s all about the feed.
Because:
- Soy proteins and corn residues can pass into eggs (common allergens)
- PUFAs and phytoestrogens can irritate the gut lining and cause hormonal disruptions
- Our feed eliminates these allergy triggers completely
Customer Reviews:

“Yours are the first eggs I've been able to eat in over 40 years without stomach upset. Thank you so very much!” - John
“No gut irritation for me like I get from other egg brands." - Carl
5. Less Pesticide Exposure
Cleaner feed = cleaner eggs.
Corn and soy are among the highest-pesticide crops, and livestock feed is allowed much higher pesticide residues than foods grown directly for humans.
Since pesticide residues have been shown to pass into eggs (ref), what chickens eat directly affects what ends up on your plate.
That’s why corn- & soy-free eggs can carry lower pesticide loads, especially when the feed ingredients are intentionally sourced.
We are seed-to-fork by design. We don’t just remove corn and soy, we know where our feed comes from and how its grown:
- Regenerative row-crop farm partners
- No pesticide applications on our feed
As a result of the regenerative egg system we have built, our eggs are lab-tested to be glyphosate-free.
